The University of Vienna is organizing, in cooperation with the European Society of Modern Greek Studies (EENS), the Austrian Society of Modern Greek Studies (ÖGNS), and the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies of the University of Vienna the 7th European Congress of Modern Greek Studies on 11-14 September 2023 in Vienna.

7th European Congress of Modern Greek Studies - Zoom in and focus on Modern Hellenism: texts, images, objects, histories

The European Society of Modern Greek Studies (EENS) organizes, in cooperation with the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of the University of Vienna and the Austrian Society of Modern Greek Studies (ÖGNS), the 7th European Congress of Modern Greek Studies from 11 to 14 September 2023.

The 7th European Congress of Modern Greek Studies addresses researchers in the wider field of scholarly areas and specializations regarding Modern Greek Studies (history, literature and philology, linguistics and language didactics, theater and cinema studies, historical and cultural anthropology, archaeology, history of art, international relations, comparative literature, musicology, political science, cultural studies). We invite in particular all young researchers in these fields to consider applying to the congress.

2023 marks the centenary of the Treaty of Lausanne, while since the last congress of the EENS in 2018 important historical commemorations were celebrated. Such commemorative processes concern not only the experience of events as such, their impact and representations in language, literature and art, but in a broader sense the chronological and geographical dimensions and the historical characteristics and expressions of the Greek world in the early modern, modern and contemporary era.

We invite you to participate with a paper, considering methodological issues and new approaches and foci to texts, images, objects, and linguistic phenomena. We particularly look forward to subjects promoting the interdisciplinary and transcultural dimensions of Modern Greek Studies.

As central (but by no means exclusive) thematic fields we propose:

1. The imprint of collective historical experiences of Modern Hellenism in literature and the
visual arts
2. Diasporas, migrations and forced population movements
3. Historiographical interpretations and approaches to Modern Hellenism
4. History of the Greek book and printing
5. Religion, language, writing: multiple expression and representations of Modern Hellenism
6. Material remains and archaeology: relation to the past and cultural heritage management
7. History of concepts and creation of political and cultural terminology in the Greek
language

Thirty (30) grants of 300 euros each will be awarded to young researchers, to enable them to participate in the congress. The abstracts of the applicants must have been previously approved by
the members of the scientific committee, and the applicants must not hold a position at a university or a research foundation or participate in a financed research program. The grants will be disbursed after the closing of the congress.

Abstract Submission

The last date for the submission of abstracts is 31 October 2022.
The abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by the scientific committee. Instructions on how to submit an abstract are given in both English and Greek on the website of the congress. The duration of each paper will be twenty (20) minutes with an additional five (5) minutes for subsequent discussion and questions.

Delayed submissions or submissions outside the digital submission link can and will not be reviewed. We kindly ask you to prepare all necessary data (personal, title, abstract) before starting the process of submitting the abstract and to fill the boxes without uploading any documents.

The congress languages are Greek and English.

Participation and registration

The congress registration fee is 60,00 €. On the congress website (https://7th-european-congress-ofmodern-greek-studies.univie.ac.at) there will be a continuous update of information regarding practical issues (e. g. transportation, suggested accommodation etc.).

7ο Ευρωπαϊκό Συνέδριο Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών - Προσεγγίσεις και εστιάσεις στον Νέο Ελληνισμό: κείμενα, εικόνες, αντικείμενα, ιστορίες

Η Ευρωπαϊκή Εταιρεία Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών (ΕΕΝΣ), σε συνεργασία με το Τμήμα Βυζαντινών και Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου της Βιέννης και την Αυστριακή Εταιρεία Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών (ÖGNS) οργανώνει το 7ο Eυρωπαϊκό Συνέδριο Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών από τις 11 ως τις 14 Σεπτεμβρίου 2023 στη Βιέννη.

Το 7ο Eυρωπαϊκό Συνέδριο Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών απευθύνεται σε ερευνήτριες και ερευνητές στο ευρύτερο φάσμα των επιστημονικών πεδίων και ειδικοτήτων που άπτονται των Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών (ιστορία, λογοτεχνία, φιλολογία, γλωσσολογία και διδακτική της γλώσσας, θεατρικές και κινηματογραφικές σπουδές, ανθρωπολογία, αρχαιολογία, ιστορία της τέχνης, διεθνείς σχέσεις, συγκριτική λογοτεχνία, μουσικολογία, πολιτική επιστήμη, πολιτισμικές σπουδές). Ιδιαίτερα απευθυνόμαστε σε όλες τις νέες ερευνήτριες, σε όλους τους νέους ερευνητές.

Το 2023 συμπληρώνονται 100 χρόνια από τη Συνθήκη της Λωζάνης ενώ το χρονικό διάστημα που μεσολάβησε από το τελευταίο συνέδριο της ΕΕΝΣ το 2018 εμπεριείχε σημαντικότατες άλλες ιστορικές επετείους. Με αφορμή τις επετείους εκφράζονται νέες προσεγγίσεις, που αφορούν όχι μόνο αυτές καθαυτές τις εμπειρίες, τις επιπτώσεις και τις αποτυπώσεις τους στη γλώσσα, τη λογοτεχνία, την τέχνη κλπ. αλλά και ευρύτερα τη χρονολογική και γεωγραφική έκταση και διάσταση και τα ιστορικά χαρακτηριστικά και τις εκφάνσεις του ελληνικού κόσμου στη νεότερη και σύγχρονη εποχή.

Σας καλούμε να συμμετάσχετε με ανακοίνωση, η οποία να προτείνει μεθοδολογικούς προβληματισμούς και νέες προσεγγίσεις και εστιάσεις σε κείμενα, εικόνες, αντικείμενα και γλωσσικά φαινόμενα. Ιδιαίτερα προσβλέπουμε σε θεματικές που προάγουν τη διεπιστημονική, συγκριτική και διαπολιτισμική διάσταση των Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών.

Ως κύριες (όχι όμως αποκλειστικές) θεματικές ορίζονται:

1. Η αποτύπωση συλλογικών ιστορικών εμπειριών του Νεότερου Ελληνισμού στη λογοτεχνία και τις εικαστικές τέχνες
2. Διασπορές, μεταναστεύσεις και υποχρεωτικές μετακινήσεις πληθυσμών
3. Ιστοριογραφικές ερμηνείες και προσεγγίσεις του νεότερου Ελληνισμού
4. Ιστορία του ελληνικού βιβλίου και του τύπου
5. Θρησκεία, γλώσσα, γραφή: πολλαπλές εκφράσεις κι εκφάνσεις του νεότερου Ελληνισμού
6. Υλικά κατάλοιπα και αρχαιολογία: σχέση με το παρελθόν και διαχείριση της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς
7. Ιστορία των εννοιών και δημιουργία πολιτικής και πολιτισμικής ορολογίας στην Ελληνική

Θα χορηγηθούν 30 υποτροφίες ύψους 300 ευρώ εκάστη σε νέες ερευνήτριες, νέους ερευνητές, προκειμένου να συμμετάσχουν στο συνέδριο. Οι περιλήψεις των ενδιαφερομένων πρέπει να έχουν προηγουμένως εγκριθεί από τα αρμόδια μέλη της επιστημονικής επιτροπής, ενώ οι ίδιοι δεν πρέπει να κατέχουν θέση μισθωτής εργασίας σε Πανεπιστήμιο ή ερευνητικό ίδρυμα, ή να συμμετέχουν σε χρηματοδοτούμενο ερευνητικό πρόγραμμα. Οι υποτροφίες θα καταβάλλονται μετά το πέρας του συνεδρίου.

Τόπος διεξαγωγής του 7ου Συνεδρίου

Οι εργασίες του 7ου Συνεδρίου θα διεξαχθούν στις αίθουσες της Πανεπιστημιούπολης του Πανεπιστημίου της Βιέννης (Campus of the University of Vienna).

Υποβολή περιλήψεων

Ως τελευταία ημερομηνία για τη δήλωση συμμετοχής με ανακοίνωση ορίζεται η 31η Οκτωβρίου 2022.

Οι περιλήψεις θα αξιολογηθούν ανώνυμα από την Επιστημονική επιτροπή. Στην ιστοσελίδα του
Συνεδρίου υπάρχουν οδηγίες τόσο στην ελληνική όσο και στην αγγλική για τη διαδικασία
υποβολής περιλήψεων. Η διάρκεια κάθε ανακοίνωσης είναι είκοσι (20) λεπτά, και προβλέπεται
επιπλέον χρόνος πέντε (5) λεπτών για συζήτηση που ενδέχεται να ακολουθήσει.

Οι ενδιαφερόμενοι καλούνται να υποβάλουν τις περιλήψεις τους (έως 400 λέξεις) μέσω του συνδέσμου που βρίσκεται στην ιστοσελίδα του Συνεδρίου:

Περιλήψεις που δεν θα υποβληθούν έγκαιρα και μέσω του ηλεκτρονικού προγράμματος, δεν θα ληφθούν υπόψη. Σας υπενθυμίζουμε ότι πριν συμπληρώσετε την ηλεκτρονική φόρμα υποβολής περιλήψεων πρέπει να έχετε ήδη ετοιμάσει τον τίτλο και την περίληψη της ανακοίνωσης καθώς και τα λοιπά απαιτούμενα στοιχεία.

Οι γλώσσες του συνεδρίου είναι τα Ελληνικά και τα Αγγλικά.

Συμμετοχή και εγγραφή
